Seismic hazard class, across ~7,900 comuni, from Dipartimento della Protezione Civile. Pan and zoom the map, or search a place to see its figure and open its full profile.
How it’s built. The regulatory seismic zone of each comune from the Dipartimento della Protezione Civile's national table, updated to 31 May 2025, restated as a HAZARD CLASS: class 4 is the official zona 1 (highest hazard), class 3 is zona 2, class 2 is zona 3 and class 1 is zona 4 (lowest). The numbering is turned around only so that a bigger number is a higher hazard, as on every other map layer; the official zone number is shown on each place's page. Each Region (and the autonomous Provinces of Trento and Bolzano) classifies its own comuni by its own act, so the table is a mosaic of those acts. Regional sub-zones (Lazio 2A/2B/3A/3B, Basilicata 1a-3b, Piemonte 3S) are counted in their national zone. This is a legal classification used for planning and for the control of building works — not a forecast of earthquakes and not an assessment of any building. Since the 2018 building code (NTC 2018) the design load of a new building comes from site-specific hazard, not from the zone. Before buying, have the specific building checked by a qualified engineer. Credit: Fonte: Dipartimento della Protezione Civile-Presidenza del Consiglio dei Ministri (CC BY 4.0).
