Who we are
Expat Living Italy (this site, www.expatliving.it, including its /data tools) is a personal, non-commercial blog written by Caitlin and Eugenio. It is not run by a company. By using the site, you agree to these terms.
Not advice
Expat Living Italy publishes data-backed articles and interactive tools about relocating to and retiring in Italy, for general information only. Nothing here is legal, tax, immigration, financial or medical advice, and nothing here creates a professional relationship with you. Rules, rates and figures change, and your situation is your own: always check with a qualified professional, and with the official source, before making a relocation, residency, tax, property or healthcare decision.
The data tools
The /data section presents figures derived from ISTAT (Italy's national statistics institute) and other public sources, with the source, reference period and coverage stated for each dataset. We work to keep it accurate, but we cannot guarantee that it is complete, current or free of errors. See /data/about-the-data for sourcing and known limitations, and tell us at hello@expatliving.it if something looks wrong.
Using the site
You're welcome to read, link to and share anything here, and to use the public data API and AI-assistant tools, including from your own software. Please don't use the site in a way that breaks the law, harms other people, or disrupts or overloads the site, for example by sending requests faster than a person or a well-behaved program would, or by trying to get around its security. We may limit or block access that does.
Articles license
The articles we publish at www.expatliving.it/articles, including their machine-readable versions (the Markdown version of each article, the articles API and our AI-assistant tools), are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license (CC BY 4.0).
You may copy, quote, summarize, translate and republish them, in any medium and for any purpose, including commercially, provided you credit Expat Living Italy and link to the article. For example:

When you change an article, say so. Do not suggest that Expat Living Italy endorses you or your use.
The license covers the article text, and the images we own: our own photographs, charts and maps, and illustrations we generated. It does not cover an image whose caption credits another source; that image stays under its owner's terms. It does not cover the underlying data either. Each dataset keeps its original source's license, shown on its page in /data, and the license for our own data work, below, is a separate grant.
Data license
Our own data work is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International license (CC BY-NC 4.0). That means the tax-regime rules we encode (the /data/tax pages), the map layers derived from them, and the responses and catalog of the public data API.
You may copy, share and build on it, provided you credit Expat Living Italy and link the page the figures come from, and you may not use it commercially unless you have agreed that with us first. Ask at hello@expatliving.it.
This is separate from the articles, which are CC BY 4.0 and may be reused commercially. It also covers only our own work. The figures we take from ISTAT, Eurostat, the EEA, Copernicus, the OECD, the Ministero della Salute, the MEF, the Agenzia delle Entrate and our other sources stay under each source's own license, shown on its page in /data.
Ownership
Apart from what the licenses above cover, the site's text, design and code belong to their authors. The data comes from public sources and stays under each source's own license, shown on its page, except for our own work described above. The names and logos of the institutions we cite belong to them, and citing them does not mean they endorse this site.
Links to other sites
We link to official sources and other sites so you can check our work. We don't control them and are not responsible for their content, availability or privacy practices.
Limitation of liability
The site is provided free of charge, as it is and as available. To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no promises about it beyond those stated here, and we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or reliance on, the site or its content. Nothing in these terms limits any liability, or any right you have, that cannot be limited or excluded by law.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. When we do, we change the date at the top of this page, and the version shown here is the one that applies.
