Foreign-born share of the working-age population across Europe's NUTS 2 regions, from Eurostat. Pan and zoom the map to compare Italy against Spain, France, Portugal, Greece, the UK and Albania.
How it’s built. Share of the population aged 15-64 in private households who were born abroad (Eurostat c_birth=FOR, which combines other-EU and non-EU birthplaces) divided by the same population in total (c_birth=TOTAL), per NUTS 2 region, Eurostat's lfst_r_lfsd2pwc, 2025. It comes from the EU Labour Force Survey — a sample survey, not a register — so the figures carry sampling error. The 15 regions Eurostat flags as low reliability are left out rather than shown as clean numbers. Birthplace, not citizenship: it includes foreign-born people who hold the local citizenship, unlike this site's ISTAT foreign-resident layers. Do not compare with the OECD foreign-born layer (2019): different survey weighting, so a joined series would invent a trend. Boundaries: github.com/eurostat/Nuts2json, 2021 typology. Every region of ES, FR carries Eurostat's "definition differs" flag for this dataset, so its shares are not strictly like-for-like with the other countries'; they are shown, not hidden, because both are on this site's comparison shortlist.
