Average annual rainfall across ~7,900 comuni, from Copernicus Climate Data Store (ERA5-Land). Pan and zoom the map, or search a place to see its figure and open its full profile.
How it’s built. Mean total annual precipitation, averaged across 2015-2024 (same ten-baseline-year departure from the WMO 30-year normal as the temperature layers, for the same CDS cost-cap reason; see scripts/etl/era5.py's own docstring). Built from the raw hourly ERA5-Land dataset (reanalysis-era5-land), not the derived daily-statistics dataset used for temperature above — that derived dataset excludes accumulated variables like precipitation from its own catalog entirely. Each day's total is read directly from the single 00:00 UTC reading on the FOLLOWING calendar day: ERA5-Land resets its accumulated fields at 00 UTC daily (unlike full ERA5, which resets at the 06/18 UTC forecast-run boundaries), so that one timestep already holds the whole day's accumulation — no hour-by-hour de-accumulation is performed. Confirmed against ECMWF's own support forum, checked live 2026-09-28. A 'day' here is a UTC calendar day (00-00 UTC), not the temperature layers' UTC+01:00 local day — immaterial to an annual total, but a real difference from how this file's own temperature layers define a day.
