How it’s built. Intentional homicides per 100,000 population, per NUTS 3 region (province-equivalent), OECD's own Regional Statistics database (DSD_REG_SOC@DF_SAFETY, MEASURE=HOMIC), 2021 — the newest year with complete coverage for this map's focus countries before a later reporting-lag drop. Boundaries: github.com/eurostat/Nuts2json, 2021 typology, reused from scripts/etl/eurostat.py rather than re-fetched — OECD's own REF_AREA codes are the same NUTS codes Eurostat uses for EU/EFTA countries (confirmed: all 107 Italian NUTS 3 codes match exactly).
