GDP per capita across Europe's NUTS 3 regions, from Eurostat. Pan and zoom the map to compare Italy against Spain, France, Portugal, Greece, the UK and Albania.
How it’s built. GDP per inhabitant in current-price euros (not purchasing-power-adjusted — a PPS-per-capita figure would rank differently, since a euro buys more in Albania than in Ireland), per NUTS 3 region (province-equivalent), Eurostat's own nama_10r_3gdp dataset, 2021 — the newest year with full NUTS 3 coverage identical to 2019 (2022 loses all of Norway; 2023-2024 lose Norway AND Albania too). A handful of regions (Ireland's IE053 and IE061, small German districts) are genuine multinational-tax-accounting outliers, not local prosperity — the map's colour scale excludes them from setting its range without excluding them from the map (see components/EuropeMapExplorer.tsx's computeDomain()).
